Rural Fire Chief Wins Award

Bradley County Rural Fire Chief Eddie West has been named winner of the "Prater Award" for exemplary service to rural fire fighting.  The award is named for Lloyd Prater, a former president of the Arkansas Rural Volunteer Fire Association. The person winning the award is given it in recognition of the persons willingness to go above and beyond the call of duty in support of Arkansas' rural and volunteer firefighters.  Other criteria includes devoting time, speaking positively of rural firefighting, treating others with respect and reaching out to share knowledge and experience.  It also includes demonstrating a spirit of selflessness and commitment.

Chief West was nominated by Eagle Democrat Editor Tim Kessler.  West intervened  in an assault on Kessler that occurred as Kessler was taking pictures of a house fire in March of this year.

The award was presented on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at a meeting in Conway.
